D.C.’s Godfather of comedy
A true veteran of comedy started his comedy career in the early 80’s,after a suggestion to try stand-up comedy from radio personality Howard Stern. Then a McDonald’s closing manager who tuned in to the show and was the first caller,so often he was invited to come in during the absence of Robin so he could give the black perspective of the news.He went in to do a 10min segment that lasted for 3hrs.Stern was so impressesd with THE FAT DR’S quick wit, impressions, and biting comic responses, suggested he try his hand at stand-up comedy.
Taking the suggestion THE FAT DR. went to the hottest comedy club in town which was also at that time one of the top comedy clubs in the country Garvin’s comedy club.THE FAT DR. quickly became a hit and moved rapidly up the comedy ladder. After only a few months his comedy career started to flourish,so much so,he was forced to resign from McDonalds. But because of a shortage of managers agreed to stay well past his 2wk. notice as a favor to the area superviser.Eventually THE FAT DR. was forced to leave McDonald’s because of a weekend obligation to comedy, which was not only the official start of his comedy career, but it also saved his life.
Mistakenly put on the McDonald’s schedule for another week he refused to honor it,not passing up on his first professional comedy engagement. On the very night of his comedy debut 2 drug-crazed thieves carrying 357magnums robbed that McDonald’s robbed that McDonald’s forced the manager to open the safe and killed him without provocation.
One year later THE FAT DR.began headlining the top comedy clubs on the circuit.Headlining the same clubs that Jerry Sienfeld,Jay Lenno,Robin Williams, just to name a few.
